SCHOLARSHIPS

 

As part of our Mission to Support Our Cougars, UH Coog Moms is proud to offer two different scholarship programs to our members’ students annually.  

 

The Cecilia Barron Yokubaitis Endowed Scholarship was generously funded by Ron & Carolyn Yokubaitis in honor of his mother. This scholarship will award $4000 annually to the top UH Coog Moms applicant.

 

All other UH Coog Moms Endowed Scholarships award $1000 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • ​Enroll full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Houston. Incoming freshmen and transfers are not eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • One family member must maintain an active Coog Moms membership.
  • Submit an essay that addresses the following:
    Describe how this scholarship will benefit you and how you will use your experiences and education from the University of Houston in your life after graduation, including the goals for your future.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid oversees the application process. Applicants are encouraged to apply by submitting the UH General Scholarship Application HERE.
  • Scholarships are awarded with a holistic view in mind, taking into consideration participation in service organizations or clubs, academic hours completed, demonstrated academic success and a well-written essay.
  • We encourage students to apply as early as possible. Although the portal will remain open throughout the year and there is no official deadline, larger awards are typically distributed first—so submitting your application early can make a difference!

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Students: Be sure to fill in your parents’ names in the application to qualify for the Coog Mom Scholarship.

  • Only selected award recipients will receive an award notification.  No denial letters will be issued.  Award notifications are expected to be released in May each year.

  • Awards are a fixed amount and are applied to the student’s University tuition & fee account. Each scholarship award will be split equally between the fall and spring semester. Scholarships are not renewable; applicants may re-apply for consideration in the following year. The student must be enrolled in both semesters to receive the full scholarship.
